Experimental personal carbon trading scheme for residents as they move around the city

The goals of the CitiCAP (citizens’ cap and trade co-created) project are to reduce emissions from transport, collect and make available digital data on mobility and transportation, and develop new transport services for residents. The CitiCAP project will experiment with a personal carbon trading scheme for movement around the city as part of the Lahti region’s transport policy, and build a main cycle route based on smart solutions (Lahti city centre to Apilakatu street).

In practice, personal carbon trading means that residents will benefit from reducing their own emissions from transportation and movement around the city. They could receive, for example, various benefits in the traffic environment, as well as incentives to use the service.

The CitiCAP project in brief:

  • collecting traffic data via one platform
  • developing and experimenting with a personal carbon trading scheme for residents as they move around the city
  • building one main cycle route (city centre to Apilakatu street) utilising smart solutions
